The Problems of Philosophy (1912) is one of Bertrand Russell's attempts to create a brief and accessible guide to the problems of philosophy. Focusing on problems he believes will provoke positive and constructive discussion, Russell concentrates on knowledge rather than metaphysics: If it is uncertain that external objects exist, how can we then have knowledge of them but by probability. There is no reason to doubt the existence of external objects simply because of sense data.Russell guides the reader through his famous 1910 distinction between "knowledge by acquaintance and knowledge by description" and introduces important theories of Plato, Aristotle, Ren Descartes, David Hume, John Locke, Immanuel Kant, G. W. F. Hegel and others to lay the foundation for philosophical inquiry by general readers and scholars alike. In the following pages I have confined myself in the main to those problems of philosophy in regard to which I thought it possible to say something positive and constructive, since merely negative criticism seemed out of place. For this reason, theory of knowledge occupies a larger space than metaphysics in the present volume, and some topics much discussed by philosophers are treated very briefly, if at all.Includesa biography of the Author Free annotated bibliography Essays and Papers - 123helpme Free annotated bibliography papers essays and research papers Heidegger's works in English English translations of Heidegger's writings This page lists books in my library For a more complete list of English translations visit: HyperJeff's The Moynihan Report: An Annotated Edition - The Atlantic The Moynihan Report: An Annotated Edition A historian unpacks The Negro Family: The Case for National Action on its 50 th anniversary Annotated Bibliography - tovatestcom PLEASE NOTE: This is not a comprehensive list If you would like to submit an article abstract or reference we encourage you to email us a copy of the complete study thoreaueserverorg/walden00html We would like to show you a description here but the site wont allow us Philosophy of religion - Wikipedia According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy philosophy of religion is "the philosophical examination of the central themes and concepts involved in Arthur Schopenhauer - The Proceedings of the Friesian School Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) Certainly one of the greatest philosophers of the 19th century Schopenhauer seems to have had more impact on literature (eg Thomas Ludwig Wittgenstein Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy Ludwig Wittgenstein (18891951) Ludwig Wittgenstein is one of the most influential philosophers of the twentieth century and regarded by some as the most important Dualism and Mind Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy Dualism and Mind Dualists in the philosophy of mind emphasize the radical difference between mind and matter They all deny that the mind is the same as the brain Islamic Philosophy Online The Premier Islamic Philosophy site on the Web!
